After the final concept presentation, MWDesign will focus on the approved product concept. This will be done primarily through 3D CAD modelling. Intaks Adjustable Access Stairs
Intaks approached MWDesign with a challenge: to create a versatile and compact stair system that integrates seamlessly with their existing scaffolding components. The goal was to design stairs that could fold flat for easy transport and storage, making them ideal for use with Intaks' scaffolding trucks.
Key Requirements:

Portability — The stairs needed to be lightweight, allowing two people to carry them and fit easily on the back of scaffolding trucks.

Compact Design — A foldable feature was crucial for saving space when transporting a full load of scaffolding components.

Compliance — The stairs had to meet NZ and Australian safety standards, including deflection and load testing.
Design Solution:
Our approach featured a robust yet lightweight construction using aluminium extrusions for the stair treads and stringers. The treads are secured to the stringers via a rod and circlip system with nylon bushes, ensuring easy assembly. Both the top and bottom landings are removable, enabling flat transport and storage. These landings share the same stringer profiles for support and use custom-designed steel locking hooks with a spring-loaded pin for secure attachment to the Intaks scaffolding system.
The stairs include a steel pivot support bracket at both the top and base, allowing for smooth angle adjustments. Additionally, a specially designed handrail bracket enables the installation of continuous handrail posts, enhancing user safety and stability.
Intaks' commitment to efficiency and safety is reflected in this design, ensuring that their customers can set up quickly and rely on a product that meets rigorous safety standards.
