COMPONENT DESIGN FOR ASSEMBLY
After the final concept presentation, MWDesign will focus on the approved product concept. This will be done primarily through 3D CAD modelling. We will further development the CAD models into precise components incorporating all features from the final concept design. The objective is to develop the design to allow us to create a prototype for testing, before investing in tooling.
Focusing on individual part components, MWDesign will refine the components and design out the cost to enable us to maintain quality while meeting our budget cost. We will begin engineering the parts for the product, focusing on functional aspects of the design.

KUKI REKA KANI - Matariki Star
Māori inspired cookie cutters to help Kaumātua connect with their heritage.
Another cookie cutter design to add to the collection of Kuki Reka Kani for the Rauawaawa Kaumatua Charitable Trust! This is the first Matariki Star cookie cutter produced in a deep shimmering purple, reflecting the beauty of the night sky.
Matariki is the Māori name for the Pleiades star cluster. According to Māori mythology, Matariki is the mother surrounded by her six daughters. However, there are nine stars in the cluster that represent different aspects of the natural world and are associated with various deities and guardians.Matariki and her daughters travel across the sky each year to visit Papatūānuku, the Earth Mother. This journey signals it is time to celebrate the Māori New Year, a time to honor the past, celebrate the present, and plan for the future.
The cookie cutter is injection moulded from food-grade polypropylene with an aluminium dowel insert for added weight. Designed to assist elderly Kaumatua with Alzheimer’s disease through cooking therapy, and to connect with their whakapapa, through the patterns and colours of the cutters using kauwhata (storytelling.)
Both rich in colour, whakapapa and values, these cookie cutters have brought joy to thousands of customers around Aotearoa, helping to raise $250,000 in sales for the Rauawaawa Kaumatua Charitable Trust.
